Music Database

My database is an Excel spreadsheet containing an inventory of all of the music that I own. The music I have spans from the late 60’s to the present date. I am in my late 30’s and grew up with the fabulous music of 80’s, so my tastes are slanted toward New Wave and Hard Rock, but I enjoy music from all genres. I don’t necessarily favor one style over another – I just like whatever sounds good.

So as you browse my “database”, use the worksheet tabs to navigate through my inventory. Now all those tabs might seem a little confusing, so here is what they mean:

v    All Songs- pretty self explanatory, however there are some doubles because some songs appear on multiple albums, cassettes, etc.

v    Burn –After I inventoried all of the music,  I decided to record it all from vinyl albums, cassettes, 45’s and burn them to CD’s to preserve them. I decided it would be fun to record them in chronological order, so as I inventoried each song, I included the chart appearance data from the book Top 40 Hits by Joel Whitburn. Then I simply sorted the data in date order and commenced with my burning.

v    45 Singles – all of the 45’s in my collection

v    33 Albums – all songs on all vinyl albums

v    Cassette Singles – all of the cassette singles in the collection

v    Cassette Albums – all songs on all cassette tape albums

v    CD Singles – self explanatory

v    CD Albums – all songs on all CD albums

v    Legend – codes for different media types as viewed in the chart
